Downloading MP3s
 
For Macintosh Users
  • In Internet Explorer:
    • Ctrl-click (or click and hold) on the sound you'd like to download.
    • Select 'download link to disk'.
    • Select a download destination and click 'save'.
    • The file will begin to download.
  • In Netscape:
    • Ctrl-click (or click and hold) on the sound you'l like to download.
    • Select 'save this link as...'.
    • Select a download destination and click 'save'.
    • The file will begin to download.

For PC Users

  • In Internet Exploror:
    • Click on the sound you would like to download.
    • Select 'save this file to disk' and click 'ok'.
    • Select a download destination and click 'save'.
    • The file will begin to download.
  • In Netscape:
    • Right-click on the sound you would like to download.
    • Select 'save link as...'.
    • Select a download destination and click 'save'.
    • The file will begin to download.

 

Playing MP3s
 
In order to listen to the MPEG-3 files on our site, you will need to download and install an MP3 player. For PCs, we recommend WinAmp, and for the Mac, try MacAmp. If you have another type of computer or just want a complete list of players, refer to mp3.com's players section.

Next run the installer or setup file to install the player. If you need to manually configure your browser to properly handle MP3 files, refer to the instructions below:

How to set the default MP3 player in Netscape for Macintosh:

  • Open Netscape's preferences from the Edit menu.
  • Under "Category:", choose "Navigator" and then "Applications".
  • Click the "New..." button and fill in the following information:
    Description: MP3 Audio
    MIME Type: audio/mpeg
    Suffixes: mp3
  • Select "Handled by: Application".
  • Click the "Choose..." button and select your mp3 player.
  • Select the appropriate file type, such as "MPG3" or "MP3".
  • Click "OK"
How to set the default MP3 player in Netscape for Windows:

  • Open Netscape's preferences from the Edit menu.
  • Under "Category:", choose "Navigator" and then "Applications".
  • Click the "New Type..." button and fill in the following information:
    Description of type: MP3 Audio
    File extension: mp3
    MIME Type: audio/mpeg
  • Click the "Browse..." button and select your mp3 player.
  • Click "OK"
How to set the default MP3 player in Explorer for Macintosh:

  • Open Explorer's preferences from the "Edit" menu.
  • Under "Receiving Files" choose "File Helpers".
  • Click the "Add..." button and fill in the following information:
    Description: MPEG-1 Layer 3
    Extension: .mp3
    MIME Type: audio/mpeg.
  • In the "File Type" section, click the "Browse..." button and select your mp3 player.
  • Select the appropriate file type, such as "MPG3" or "MP3".
  • In the Handling section, select "Post-Process with Application", then click the "Browse..." button and select your mp3 player.
  • Click "OK"
How to set the default MP3 player in Explorer for Windows:

  • Right click on "My Computer".
  • Choose "Explore".
  • In the Windows Explorer, click "View" and then "Options".
  • Click the "File Types" tab.
  • Click the "New Type..." button and fill in the following information:
    Description of Type: MP3 File
    Content Type (MIME) audio/mpeg
    Default Extension for Content Type .mp3
  • Click the "New..." button.
  • Under "Action:" enter "Action open".
  • Click the "Browse..." button and select your mp3 player.
  • Click "OK"
  • Click the close button.
